CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Syracuse freshman outfielder Tanya Rose (Milwaukie, Ore./Rex Putnam) has been named second team All-Eastern College Athletic Conference by the organization's coaches. She is the first Orangewomen to be honored by the ECAC in the program's three-year history.
Rose was the 2002 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and a unanimous first team All-BIG EAST selection. She became the fourth BIG EAST player to win the Rookie of the Year Award, be named to the all-conference first team and be a part of the conference's all-rookie team. She was also a NFCA/Louisville Slugger first team All-Northeast Region selection.
Rose hit .378 with three home runs for the season. She set Syracuse single-season records for hits (54), total bases (77), on-base percentage (.422), stolen bases (13) and multi-hit games (19). Rose also set Orangewomen freshman records with two triples, a .538 slugging percentage and 26 RBI.
Rose helped the Orangewomen to a 25-21 overall record and a 12-6 mark in the BIG EAST. Syracuse finished third in the league, qualifying for its first conference tournament.
