Countdown to Kickoff: Orangemen in the Community

The Syracuse Orangemen participated in more than 40 community service projects during the spring semester of the 2001-02 school year. The Orangemen visited more than 10 elementary schools to talk with and read to the students, participated in ceremonies for the Onondaga County Special Olympics and assisted in building houses for Habitat for Humanity.
The SU football team also made appearances at several fundraisers and charity events. During the football season, players occasionally stopped by local high schools to talk with members of the team. The team recently helped a local Pop Warner team earn money by working at a car wash fundraiser.
The 2002-03 school year looks to bring more of the same community service by the Orangemen football players, as many events are already lined up.
Syracuse kicks off the 2002 season on August 29 in Provo, Utah against Brigham Young. The Orangemen will open the home portion of their schedule on September 7 when they host North Carolina in the Carrier Dome. For tickets call 888-DOMETIX or visit www.dometix.com.
