Green, whose 45.5 career quarterback sacks is the SU record, was recruited locally out of Liverpool High School. His 15 sacks in his junior year stood as the single-season standard until last season, when Dwight Freeney recorded 17.5 sacks.
After a first-round selection in the 1986 NFL draft, Green enjoyed an eight-year career with the Atlanta Falcons. The defensive end and linebacker totaled more than 100 tackles in a season three times and finished with 24 sacks in 99 professional games.
Green stood out not only for his football greatness, but also for his academic excellence at Syracuse University. Following his junior and senior seasons, he was named both an athletic and academic All-American. Today, Green is an NFL television analyst and a lawyer.
Syracuse kicks off the 2002 season on August 29 in Provo, Utah against Brigham Young. The Orangemen will open the home portion of their schedule on September 7 when they host North Carolina in the Carrier Dome. For tickets call 888-DOMETIX or visit www.dometix.com.
