
Field Hockey Plays Host to No. 7 Penn State

Syracuse is 3-2 on the season, following a 1-0 overtime upset of previously No. 16-ranked Ohio State, on Sept. 15. The Orangewomen moved up four spots to No. 20 in this week's STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.
Today marks SU's third consecutive match against a Big Ten opponent. On Sept. 13, the Orangewomen lost a 5-0 decision to the defending Big Ten champion, Michigan State.
This will mark the 21st meeting between Syracuse and Penn State. The Nittany Lions have never lost to the Orangewomen. They own a 19-0-1 record in the all-time series.
Kathleen Parker is in her 25th season as head field hockey coach at Syracuse University. Her career record is 270-167-14, good for a winning percentage of .614. She ranks fifth among active Division I coaches in career victories. Last season, Parker earned her fourth BIG EAST Coach of the Year distinction and was selected as the Mideast Region Coach of the Year. She guided the Orangewomen to the conference championship and the NCAA quarterfinals.
Senior goalkeeper Audrey Latsko was selected as the BIG EAST co-Defensive Player of the Week. She recorded two shutouts in wins against Albany and Ohio State and posted a season-high 13 saves against Michigan State. Latsko has played every minute in goal so far this season for the Orangewomen.
Senior Kristin Aronowicz, a second-team All-American last season and the Preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, is in hot pursuit of the all-time scoring mark at SU. She currently owns 80 career points (35 goals, 10 assists) and needs 15 more to break Julie Williamson's and Yvonne Milionis' career scoring marks of 94 points. Aronowicz has two goals on the season (vs. Stanford and Albany).
Sophomore forward Lindsay Peirson tallied the game-winning goal in overtime against Ohio State. It was Peirson's second goal of the season and her first career game-winning goal.
Senior forward Michelle Marks notched her first goal of the season against Albany. It turned out to be the game-winning goal and came at 40:49 of the second half. For Marks, it was her ninth career goal. Marks performed her play-making ways later in the week against Ohio State. The senior gained control of the ball in overtime and dribbled through the circle, dishing it off for the game-winning assist.
Sophomore forward Ann-Marie Guglieri tallied SU's second goal in the win against Albany. It was her first goal of the season and seventh of her career. She is currently tied for the team-lead in scoring with Peirson and Aronowicz with four points (one goal, two assists).
Senior goalkeeper Audrey Latsko recorded her third shutout of the season against Ohio State. It moved her into third place on SU's all-time shutouts list. With 15.5 career shutouts, Latsko surpassed Eileen Lewis (1981-84), who recorded 15 shutouts during her four-year career at SU. Cheri Herr (1992-95) is the school's all-time leader in shutouts with 33. Elisa DeRochi (1988-91) posted 25 shutouts to rank second on the career list.
Penn State Notes
Junior goalkeeper Annie Zinkavich was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. She stopped a career-high 10 shots against the Tar Heels and recorded her second shutout of the season against Temple.
Heather Conroy leads PSU in scoring with six goals and 12 points. She tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal on Sunday against North Carolina. Jill Martz is second on the squad with 11 points (two goals, seven assists). Timarie Legal, who scored both goals in Penn State's 2-0 victory against the Orangewomen last season, is third on the team in scoring with six points (two goals, two assists).
Penn State is outshooting its opponents by an average of 10 shots per game. The Nittany Lions are averaging three goals per contest. They have allowed 21 penalty corners.
The Nittany Lions are quick to strike. They have outscored opponents, 9-0, in first halves.
Zinkavich has started in goal for all four contests. She is the owner of a 0.64 goals against average and a .913 save percentage.Penn State Notes
