
Orangemen Rally for 3-2 Overtime Win

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sophomore forward Jarett Park (Tully, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) scored two of SU's three unanswered goals in the final seven and one-half minutes of play, helping the men's soccer team to a 3-2 overtime victory versus Georgetown on Saturday, September 7. The Orangemen are now 1-2- overall and 1-0 in the BIG EAST, while Georgetown falls to 0-3 and 0-1 in conference play.
Park finished the game with two goals and an assist for a career-high five points. Junior forward Kirk Johnson (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown), the team's leading scorer the past two seasons, earned his first point of the year with an assist on Syracuse's first goal.
Senior forward Guido Cristofori (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport)ended the game in the 93rd minute with his second goal of the season. Park played a long ball to senior Ryan Hall (Great Falls, Va./Herndon) who hit the cross to Cristofori, setting up the game-winner. It was Hall's second assist of the contest and his first points of the season.
With the Orangemen trailing 2-0 with 5:03 left in the second half, Park put the team on the board. He played the ball off a Georgetown defender, split two men in the box and found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. He tied the game with 2:34 left in regulation when he beat the Hoyas' keeper with a diving header. Hall and Johnson were credited with the assists.
After a scoreless first half, the Hoyas scored the first two goals of the game. Ben Jefferson-Dow picked up a loose ball and slid it in for Georgetown's first tally, and Paul Brandley headed in rebound to put the Hoyas up 2-0.
Freshman Alim Karim (Scarborough, Ontario/West Hill Collegiate) earned his first victory as an Orangeman, making three saves. Syracuse outshot Georgetown, 21-10.
SU's next game is Tuesday, September 10 at Colgate. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. The Orangemen return home on Saturday, September 14 for a 12 p.m. game with Adelphi.
