
Orangewomen Host Rival Georgetown on Wednesday

SYRACUSE , N.Y. - The Syraucse women's basketball team will try and end its three-game losing streak when it hosts the Georgetown Hoyas at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Syracuse is 5-9 overall and 0-3 in the BIG EAST, while the Hoyas are 10-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.
The Orangewomen lost their last game, 75-55, at Rutgers. SU was within striking distance, trailing by only four points, 34-30, at halftime, but a 23-9 second-half surge by the Scarlet Knights put the game away. Junior Julie McBride led the team in scoring with 16 points, including three three-pointers. Junior April Jean was the only other player in double figures with 15 points. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
McBride leads the Orangewomen in scoring with a 16.9 points per game average. She is averaging 20.3 points per contest in SU’s first three league games. McBride also paces the Orangewomen with 40 three-pointers and 6.6 assists per contest. McBride has 92 assists this season, eight shy of becoming only the second player in Syracuse history to record at least 100 assists in her first three seasons (Raquel Nurse).
Junior Shannon Perry is averaging a double-double of 16.7 points and 10.9 rebounds. Sophomore Rochelle Coleman is scoring 13.2 points per contest. Jean is the fourth Orangewoman scoring in double figures at 10.1 points per game. She is Syracuse’s second-leading rebounder with 7.1 caroms a game. Since the start of the BIG EAST season, Jean’s numbers have improved. She is 12th in the league averaging 15.0 points in conference play and ranks third with a 9.3 rebounding average. She is tied for second, grabbing 3.0 offensive rebounds per game and is third with 6.3 defensive rebounds per game in BIG EAST play.
Rebekkah Brunson leads the Hoyas in both scoring and rebounding, averaging a double-double of 18.4 points and 11.4 rebounds. She is the BIG EAST’s leading rebounder and ranks fourth in the conference in scoring. Mary Lisicky is one of two other GU players averaging in double figures. The sophomore guard is scoring at a 13.7 points per game clip and is the Hoyas’ top threat from three-point range. Lisicky has made 50.7 percent of her long-range attempts (37-of-73), and has 11 threes in the Hoyas’ first two BIG EAST games. Lisicky also leads the team in assists with 58. Senior forward Nok Duany, sister of Syracuse men’s standout Kueth Duany, is scoring 10.8 points per contest. She is the Hoyas second-leading rebounder at 5.8 boards a game.
The Orangewomen lead the all-time series with the Hoyas, 21-17, but GU has won six of the last eight meetings. Syracuse won last year’s game, 89-61, at Manley Field House. The win snapped a three-game losing streak against Georgetown. The Hoyas are 6-12 all-time at Manley Field House, including two straight losses.Two of the last three meetings have gone into overtime.
