Home for Second-Straight Week Against Pirates
Syracuse takes on Seton Hall in SU's second consecutive home contest, this Saturday, Feb. 1. Diving will begin at 2 p.m. at the Sibley Pool in the women's building, while swimming is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Ted Webster Pool. The Orange are in the midst of a three-meet home stand. Next Saturday, Feb. 8, they will host Villanova with diving beginning at 9 a.m. and swimming at 12 p.m. - both competitions will take place at Webster Pool.
SU Looks to Rebound Following Dual-Meet Loss Last Week to Connecticut
Syracuse is looking to get back in the win column this week against Seton Hall. Last Saturday, both the men's and women's teams were defeated by Connecticut. The Orangemen lost a 140-101 decision, while the Orangewomen were surpassed by a score of 132-111. It was the first dual-meet loss of the season for the women. The SU men have lost their last two dual meets.
Series Against Seton Hall
The Orange will look to remain undefeated against the Seton Hall Pirates. Both the men and women are 11-0 all-time against SHU in dual-meet action. Last season in New Jersey, the Orangemen posted a 135-97 victory. The Orangewomen recorded a 136-78 win.
Junior Captains Lead by Example
Juniors Elyse McDonough and Spencer Raymond each won three events against Connecticut.
McDonough Unbeaten in 21 Consecutive Dual-Meet Races, Has Won 22 of her Last 23
Junior Elyse McDonough kept her impressive dual-meet unbeaten streak alive against Connecticut. With first-place finishes in the 100 freestyle (53.07) and 200 freestyle (1:53.67), she remained perfect this season at 12-for-12 in individual dual-meet races. All in all, McDonough has won 22 of her last 23 individual dual-meet events, dating back to Nov. 3, 2001, when she finished second in the 200 IM to Florida Atlantic's Marina Mulyayeva.
Women's 400 Medley Relay Team Beats Huskies
McDonough helped SU's 400 medley relay team to a first-place finish against the Huskies with a time of 3:55.62. Senior Jennifer Jonusaitis, sophomore Rachel Wrede and freshman Christina Jansen were the other three swimmers involved.
Raymond Focused on Winning Track
Junior Spencer Raymond scored first-place points for the Orangemen in the 50 freestyle (21.39) and the 200 breaststroke (2:10.62) against Connecticut. He teamed up with freshmen Bobby Schelling and Ryan Caponera and sophomore Mike Anstrom to win the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:28.72.
Jansen Wins Two Events Against UConn
Freshman Christina Jansen was first in the women's 50 freestyle (25.10) against Connecticut. She also helped the 400 medley relay team take first place.
Youth Propels 400 Freestyle Relay to First Place
SU's young 400 freestyle relay team featuring rookies Kristi Westrich, Claire Wong, Lisa Wittich and sophomore Lisa Fong combined to capture first place with a time of 3:38.75 against Connecticut last week.
Syracuse on The BIG EAST Top Times Lists
Several Syracuse swimmers and divers have posted times/scores that are among the top 10 in The BIG EAST Conference this season (according to the league's Jan. 16th report). The swimmers in the top 10 achieved their times at the Nike Cup in November. The divers achieved their scores at the Thomas Murphy Invitational in Baltimore in the beginning of November.
