SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse men's soccer team recorded its fourth shutout of the season, tying West Virginia, 0-0 in double overtime, on Friday, October 10 at the SU Soccer Stadium. The Orangemen are now 2-6-4 overall and 0-3-3 in the BIG EAST. The Mountaineers are 4-6-2 overall and 1-3-2 in conference play.
SU has now played six overtime games this season and five double-overtime games. It was the Orangemen's second 0-0 tie of the season. Syracuse's four ties are the most since the 1990 team had five.
Syracuse outshot the Mountaineers 14-9. The Orangemen's best chance to score came on their final shot of the night with less than three minutes remaining in the second overtime. Senior Kirk Johnson hit a cross from left sideline intended for rookie Frank Bruno. Bruno made solid contact, but his header attempt went just wide of the net.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alim Karim made four saves in his career-best fourth shutout of the season. West Virginia keeper Nick Noble also made four saves to earn his third shutout of the season.
The Orangemen play their next two games on the road. SU travels to Rutgers on Tuesday, October 14 and plays at Georgetown on October 18. Syracuse's next home game is October 22 versus Cornell.
