
Orangemen Host Connecticut in Home Finale

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse men's soccer team will play its final home game of 2003 when it hosts 22nd-ranked Connecticut on Sunday, October 26 at 1 p.m. The Orangemen are 3-7-5 overall and 0-4-4 in the BIG EAST, while the Huskies are 7-6-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the conference.
The game will mark the final home appearance for Chris Aloisi, Chris Fehrle, Kirk Johnson and Ari Schneider, SU's four seniors.
The Orangemen are coming off a 4-0 win against Cornell on Wednesday. Junior Anthony Matrone scored five points on a goal and three assists, while sophomore Jeff Evans added three assists of his own. Sophomore Ilias Calaitzidis scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Freshman Richard Asante and Schneider also scored for the Orangemen.
Connecticut has won its last two games, a 1-0 win against Notre Dame and a 6-1 defeat of Hartford. Four Huskies are atop the team's goal-scoring list with three tallies each. Cesar Cuellar leads the team with nine points on three goals and three assists. Adam Schuerman is the Huskies' leading goalkeeper with a 7-4-1 record. He has all five of UConn's shutouts, posting a 1.03 goals against average.
Connecticut leads the all-time series with Syracuse, 16-9-3. The Huskies have won the last three meetings. SU's last victory was a 1-0 decision in Storrs in 2000 when UConn was ranked No. 1 in the nation.
