Orangemen Host Notre Dame in Regular-Season Finale
12/1/2003 4:29:36 PM | Football
Sixteen seniors will play in their final game at the Carrier Dome when the football Orangemen host Notre Dame at 1 p.m. at the Carrier Dome on Saturday. Both teams enter the contest with 5-6 records.
Syracuse and Notre Dame will play each other for the first time in 40 years. The Fighting Irish have won two of the three meetings with the Orangemen. SU won the last meeting, 14-7, in 1963 in Yankee Stadium.
Quarterback R.J. Anderson needs just three more completions to set the school single-season record completions in one season. He currently has 169 this season, two shy of Marvin Graves record of 171 (1993). Anderson set the SU record for passes thrown in one season with 283 through 11 games.
Join the Office of Alumni Relations, Orange Pack, and SU Catering for the Orange Friendzy, beginning at 11 a.m. under a tent next to the Carrier Dome at Gate N (on the north side of the Carrier Dome across from the Heroy Geology building). Please note the change in location and time. Â
SU alumni, Orange Pack members, students, fans, and friends will get together for fun and food. Hamburgers and hot dogs available for purchase, also pulled pork sandwiches and baked beans from Dinosaur Barbecue (until they're gone). Tom Merritt '73 will be demonstrating Box Score, a sports trivia computer game. The SU Marching Band will perform on the Quad (weather permitting).Â
Saturday's game will be televised on ABC. Brad Nessler and Bob Griese will call the action from the booth with Lynn Swann providing sideline reports.
The game will also be broadcast on the Syracuse University Radio Network. "Voice of the Orange" Mark Johnson provides the play-by-play and Dick MacPherson is the color analyst. Matt Park is the sideline reporter and hosts the pre- and post-game shows.
