Clifton Smith Activated by Washington Redskins

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Former Syracuse University linebacker Clifton Smith was placed on the active roster of the NFL’s Washington Redskins on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Smith has been a member of the team’s practice squad all season.
Smith signed with the Redskins as a free agent after the completion of his college career at Syracuse. As an Orangeman, Smith compiled 405 total tackles, which ranks sixth on SU’s career list and fifth on the BIG EAST career leaderboard. Smith finished his Syracuse career with 244 solo tackles, the sixth-most in SU history. Thirty-six of his tackles were for a loss, which ranks third on the career ledger. He was a 2002 second-team All-BIG EAST selection and a first-team All-BIG EAST selection by The Sporting News. The ECAC honored him as a 2002 Division I-A All-Star, and he played in the 2003 Senior Bowl.
