SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Sophomore #Gerry McNamara# hit four three's to move into a tie for ninth on SU's all-time three-point field goals made list in the #19/21 Orangemen's 101-63 victory against Colgate on Monday in the Carrier Dome.
McNamara scored 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. He tied Jason Cipolla with 105 career three-pointers.
The Orangemen had five players score in double figures, including freshman #Demetris Nichols#, who scored a personal-best 10 points off the bench. Junior #Hakim Warrick# was SU's leading scorer with 17 points. He also tied his career-high with five assists. It was the first time the Orange have had five double-digit scorers in a game since the 2002-03 regular-season finale against Rutgers on March 9, 2003.
Junior #Craig Forth# recorded two blocks to move into a tie with Otis Hill for ninth on SU's career blocked shots ledger with 122 rejections. Freshman #Darryl Watkins# contributed career bests with six points and six rebounds in 14 minutes of action.
It is the first time the Orangemen have cracked the 100-point barrier since they notched 109 markers versus Albany on Dec. 28, 2002.
Syracuse (6-1) never trailed in the contest and opened up a 29-13 lead midway through the first half on the strength of a 25-9 run. McNamara and junior #Josh Pace# keyed the stretch with eight points and seven points, respectively. A Warrick jumper gave SU a 23-point first-half lead and the Orange took a 52-30 margin into the break.
After a Pace layup made the score 63-32 with 17:37 left, the Raiders (5-4) connected on three-pointers on three straight possessions. Mark Linebaugh hit the last two, which pulled Colgate to within 25, 73-46. It was as close as the Raiders would get.
Pace finished with 11 points and sophomore #Billy Edelin# netted 14 on 7-of-9 shooting. He also added seven assists. The Orangemen shot a season-best 57 percent from the floor (45-79) and outrebounded the Raiders 50-27. Syracuse also held a 58-22 advantage in points in the paint.
Linebaugh connected on five three's and scored 23 points to lead the Raiders. Howard Blue added 16 and Kendall Chones went for nine points and paced Colgate with seven rebounds.
It was the 38th consecutive win for the Orangemen versus the Raiders and Syracuse's owns a 111-45 mark in the all-time series. The Orangemen also extended their streak of wins against New York State institutions to 26 games.
The Orangemen will host UNC-Asheville on Sunday, Dec. 28 at 1:00 p.m.
