Anthony Earns 7th BIG EAST Rookie Honor

PROVIDENCE, RI -- Freshman forward Carmelo Anthony was named the BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week by the league on Feb. 17. It is the seventh time this season that Anthony has received the recognition.
Anthony tied his career-best scoring effort with 29 at Connecticut on Feb. 10. He added 11 rebounds. Against Notre Dame on Feb. 15, Anthony had 26 points, including 14 over the last 10 minutes of the game, and nine rebounds. He has made 20 consecutive free throws.
Anthony was also named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Nov. 25, Dec. 30, Jan. 6 and Feb. 10, and was a co-recipient on Deb. 16 and Jan. 13. The former Syracuse record for Rookie of the Week honors in a single season was held by Lawrence Moten, who had six in 1991-92. Georgetown's Allen Iverson has the league record of nine, set in 1994-95.
