
SU Swimmers and Divers Complete First Round of Preliminaries at BIG EAST Championships

Members of the Syracuse swimming and diving team completed the first round of preliminaries at the BIG EAST Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in Uniondale, N.Y. Thursday morning. Five Orangemen and Orangewomen will move on to the finals tonight.
Freshman Lisa Wittich (St. Louis, MO) swam her best time this season in the 500 freestyle for a ninth-place finish (4:56.23). Sophomore Josh Scott (Clayton, CA) led the Orangemen in the 500 freestyle with his 12th-place finish (4:31.84). Wittich and Scott will compete in the consolation finals tonight.
Junior Elyse McDonough's (Delmar, NY) seventh-place finish in the women's 200 individual medley was her second-best time in that event this season (2:04.21). She will swim for a medal tonight in the finals.
Sophomore Mike Anstrom (Springfield, VA) finished the men's 50 freestyle with the best Syracuse time this season (20.57) with an 11th-place finish. Junior Spencer Raymond (Idstein, Germany) finished close behind in 15th-place with a time of 20.78. Anstrom and Raymond will compete in the consolation finals.
The finals will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
