
Syracuse Field Hockey Signs Four Recruits

The Syracuse University field hockey team signed four recruits to enter the University in the fall as freshmen. Ashley Fry (Douglassville, Pa./Oley Valley H.S.), Megan Ricker (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area H.S.), Megan Ryan (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield H.S.), and Jessica Wreski (Middletown, Pa./Lower Dauphin H.S.) have all committed to play field hockey for the Orangewomen beginning in the fall of 2003.
Fry played forward for the Lady Lynx all four years of high school in addition to being a member of the softball team. As a senior captain, she compiled 29 goals and five assists. A member of the National Honor Society, Fry was named the MVP in her division and earned all-county, all-division, and first-team all-state honors. She was the leading scorer in Berks County her senior year and was a member of the Berks Senior All-Star team and the Keystone Berks Blue Pool champion team at the National Hockey Festival in 2002. As a sophomore, Fry's high school team won the county, district, and state championships.
As a tri-athlete at Palmyra Area High School, Ricker participated in field hockey, soccer, and swimming. Her senior year, the Cougars went 24-2 to become league and district champions for the second year in a row. As a senior captain, Ricker had three goals, two assists, and one defensive save. At the Winter Indoor Keystones, her team earned the gold medal in 2001 and the silver medal in 2003. She was a member of the 2002 champion Indoor Nationals team and the 2002 PFHCA All-Academic Squad. In 2001, Ricker was named team MVP at the Falcon Classic and the Cougar Classic. She was named a first-team Mid-Penn All-Star and earned the principal's Tri-Athlete award for her participation in three high school sports all four years.
Ryan played field hockey and competed in track and field for the Black Knights all four years of high school. She scored 15 goals, had five assists and earned first-team all-state and first-team L-L League All-Star honors as a senior. Ryan was a member of the Lanco Cheetahs her sophomore, junior, and senior years and the Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Star team as a senior. In 2001, she was named the Hempfield High School Spring Athlete of the Year. Ryan was named team MVP as a junior and earned the team award for outstanding offense as a senior captain. She holds Hempfield High School track and field records for the 100 and 300 hurdles and the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
Wreski competed in field hockey and soccer all four years for the Falcons. As a senior captain, Wreski had three goals and two assists. Her defensive skills helped the Falcons to 17 shutouts her senior year and 51 shutouts during her career. Her high school team won the district championship in 2002. Wreski was a Commonwealth Division All-Star and a first-team all-state selection in 2002. She played in the National Outdoor Festival, the National Indoor Tournament, and the Keystone Indoor State Games. Wreski also volunteered as an indoor field hockey coach her senior year.
The Syracuse University field hockey team finished the 2002 season with a 10-11 record.
