Women's Track Third At ECAC Championship

The Orangemen finished 14th out of 48 teams with 16 points across town at the 82nd Annual IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championship, held at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
Culley ran a career-best 24.24 in the 200 and finished .22 head of Pittsburgh's Kim Lyles to win the event. Her victory was complemented by a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash in a school-record time of 7.53. The time bested Culley's previous school record of 7.54, set in 2001.
The 1,600-meter relay squad of freshman Heather Stevens, sophomore Valerie Boling, junior LaNae Walker and Culley finished seventh with a season-best time of 3:44.82.
Sophomore Johvonne Hernandez took third in the weight throw with a mark of 59-11 and freshman Kristen Michalski place fifth in the event with a career-best throw of 57-11.25. Hernandez finished second in the shot put on Saturday with a throw of 51-8.
Sophomore Jenna Grimaldi led the women's jumpers and cleared 5-8.50 to earn second place in the high jump. Graduate student Aprelle Watkins jumped 19-3.50 in the long jump for eighth place.
Senior Zelma Jackson set a school record and finished 13th in the mile with a time of 4:55.85. Jackson's time eclipsed the previous record of 4:59.6, set by Beth Burchill in 1987.
Senior Tim Adrian led the men's team with a second-place throw of 57-0.25 in the shot put. Junior John Bitok sped to a 8:11.13 third-place finish in the 3,000-meter run. Classmate Joshua Johnson was seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 48-2.5.
Senior Richard Polidore finished 11th in the long jump with a mark of 22-8 and classmate Joel Carusone cleared 15-6 in the pole vault for 15th place. Senior Matt Troha was 13th in the high jump, clearing 6-7.
The distance medley relay team of Brian McNeil, Chris Telesford, Sean Miller and Chris Muldoon ran a season-best time of 10:06.96 and finished 13th.
Hernandez will find out Monday if she will be competing at the NCAA Indoor Championship in Fayetteville, Ark. on March 14-15. Prior to Sunday's competition, Hernandez was ranked 14th in the shot put and 21st in the weight throw in the NCAA.
