
No. 7 Orangewomen Take On No. 4 Terps Saturday

The Syracuse University women’s lacrosse team looks to continue its winning ways on Saturday when the Orangwomen face No. 4 Maryland at 1 p.m. at College Park. Both teams are undefeated on the young season with SU at 2-0 and Maryland at 3-0.
The Orangewomen jumped seven spots this week in the IWLCA Poll to No. 7 after defeating Virginia, 12-11, on Saturday, March 1. SU also beat Virginia Tech, 9-8, on Tuesday, March 4. The last time SU was ranked seventh was during the 2002 season after the Orange defeated Virginia, 12-10.
Syracuse is 0-5 in the all-time series against Maryland, including a 15-11 loss on March 10, 2002 in the Carrier Dome. The Terps defeated No. 2 Duke, 9-8, in overtime on Thursday. Maryland also defeated George Mason, 20-9, and North Carolina, 10-8, to start off its season.
Junior Leigh-Ann Zimmer was nominated this week as a candidate for the Tewaaraton Trophy, an award which recognizes the top male and female in collegiate lacrosse. Zimmer, a 2002 second-team All-American, leads the Orangewomen in points with seven (five goals, two assists).
Junior Danielle Lillis was named BIG EAST Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after recording a career-high four goals, including the game-winner, against Virginia.
