The Syracuse University women’s rowing team competes in the third annual BIG EAST Rowing Challenge on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA on Sunday, April 27. The Orangewomen look to win their third straight overall title. The event is comprised of six races.
A total of nine BIG EAST schools will be racing for the title this Sunday. The Orangewomen are the only school with a varsity eight boat ranked in the national polls. SU is 16th in this week’s Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing Poll.
Last year, the Orange boats turned in four first-place finishes in five races. SU’s varsity eight and junior varsity repeated as conference champions, while the novice eight and novice four earned Syracuse’s first conference titles in those races.
“Our main goal is to come away with a team title,” said head coach Kris Sanford. “This is a big weekend for us. The crossover with Notre Dame is an important one for qualifying for the NCAA Championship.”
Syracuse is ranked third in the Atlantic region, while Notre Dame is fifth in the Central region.
Tri-captains Marisa Begley, Nicole Garofalo and Lesley Wolf lead the top eight boat.
