Syracuse University’s Leigh-Ann Zimmer was named BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, April 7.
The midfielder recorded seven points in SU’s two BIG EAST victories against No. 15 Notre Dame and Rutgers last week. In the 9-6 win against Notre Dame, Zimmer tallied four goals, including her 100th career goal at SU. The Tewaaraton Trophy candidate became only the fourth Orangewomen to accomplish this feat.
Against Rutgers, Zimmer extended her scoring streak to 33 games with two goals. The streak dates back to the 2001 season. Zimmer has scored at least one point in the last 37 games and has tallied at least two points in SU’s first 10 games of 2003.
Zimmer is second on SU’s career points list with 141 points (105 goals, 36 goals).
The No. 8 Orangewomen (8-2, 5-1 BIG EAST) are off to their best start since the inaugural 1998 season when the team started 9-2.
