Women's Rowing Competes For The Orange Plus Cup

SYRACUSE, NY - The No. 15 Syracuse women’s rowing team competes for the Orange Plus Cup on Saturday morning on Onondaga Lake. The Orangewomen have won the cup the last three years.
The trophy was initially awarded to the winner of the SU-Rutgers varsity eight race. Since, 2000 the trophy has gone to the winner of the Syracuse-Villanova-Massachusetts race.
SU is coming off a great weekend of racing in Worcester, MA at the BIG EAST Rowing Challenge. The Orangewomen won the overall title for the third straight year. Syracuse head rowing coach Kris Sanford was named the BIG EAST Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year. The Orange boats turned in three first-place finishes.
The Orangewomen’s varsity eight won its third conference championship, while the novice eight and novice four captured conference titles for the second straight year in those races. Syracuse placed second in the junior varsity eight race, and finished third in the varsity four A and B races. Overall, Syracuse collected 112 points, edging Notre Dame, which had 110 points.
