
Tarullo and Scanlon Win Spring Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Junior offensive lineman Matt Tarullo and senior linebacker Rich Scanlon were named the Syracuse football team's most improved players during 2003 spring practice.
Tarullo won the Bill Maxwell Award as the most improved player on offense. Tarullo started all 12 games last season at right guard. He is one of four players that started each game in 2002 and one of four returning starters along the offensive front.
Scanlon, a team captain for 2003, received the Ted Dailey Award for the most improved defensive player. Scanlon started nine games last season as an outside linebacker, but was moved to middle linebacker for spring drills. Scanlon ranked sixth on the team with 58 tackles, including nine for a loss. He had one interception, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble.
The Orangemen open the 2003 season on September 6 at North Carolina. The home opener is September 13 versus Louisville.
