
Kelly Joins Orangewomen Softball

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse softball head coach Mary Jo Firnbach has announced that Melissa Kelly will play for the Orangewomen beginning in 2003-04. Kelly recently completed her junior college career at West Valley Community College.
Kelly, a right-handed first baseman from San Jose, Calif., helped West Valley to a 92-16 record in her two seasons. She was a first-team All-Coast Conference pick both years and was named first-team All-Northern California in 2003. She was also a second-team All-State selection following her sophomore season.
In 2003, she hit .371 (49-for-132) with 30 runs batted in. Kelly racked up 27 runs scored, led the team with 14 doubles and homered twice. She struck out just nine times in 132 at-bats, compiling an on-base percentage of .432. In the field, she had a .985 fielding percentage.
Kelly is a 2001 graduate of Archbishop Mitty High School. She lettered four times for the Monarchs. Her senior year she hit .340 with 11 doubles. She was named All-Blossom Valley League following her sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
