SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse women's basketball head coach Keith Cieplicki has announced the addition of Lauren Kohn to the Orangewomen roster for the 2003-04 season. Kohn will be one of two newcomers to the SU squad this season.
Kohn, a 5-10 guard from Adrian, Mich., was a three-sport athlete at Adrian High School, playing basketball for four years, volleyball for four years and softball for two years. As a senior, she averaged 18.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. She holds school records for points in a game with 36 and points in a career with 1,164.
Kohn capped a highly-decorated scholastic career in 2003. She was a candidate for both the Michigan Miss Basketball and Miss Volleyball awards as a senior. On the hardwood, Kohn was named first-team all-state by the Detroit Free Press and Associated Press, while earning second-team all-state honors from the Detroit News. She earned first-team all-conference and all-county accolades in each of her final three seasons. A two-time team MVP, Kohn captained the Maples in her last two years and helped the team to conference championships in 2001 and 2002 as well as district championships in 1999 and 2000.
As a volleyball player, Kohn was a first-team all-state pick as a junior by the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association. She was a three-time all-conference and all-county selection, and an all-region and all-district pick as a junior.
Kohn originally signed to play at Vermont. She was coached at Adrian by current SU Director of Women's Basketball Operations Amy Reckner.
Two other roster moves were announced on Friday. Senior guard Shannon Perry will not participate with the team during the fall semester. Also, senior forward April Jean will be ineligible to compete during the fall semester.
