Orangewomen Lose 2-0, Versus Georgetown

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Georgetown defeated the Syracuse women’s soccer team, 2-0 Friday Sept. 19 at the Syracuse Soccer Stadium. The Orangewomen are now 4-2-0 on the season, while the Hoyas improve to 2-5-0.
Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Kowalczyk made six saves for the Orangewomen, while junior Stephanie Sybert and senior Nina Scalzo paced the Syracuse offense with three shots each.
The Orangewomen set the tempo of the match in the first ten minutes, creating a number of scoring oppotunities, but could not get on the scoreboard. Georgetown took a 1-0 lead when Courtney Shaub converted on a corner kick at 31:19. Crissy Skogen earned an assist on the play. The Hoyas extended their advantage to 2-0 when Elizabeth Roberti scored on a pass deflected to her by Shara McNeil at 42:57.
Syracuse turned on the pressure in the second half and earned four corner kicks to Georgtown’s one, but the Hoyas’ defense was able to deny the Orangewomen a chance to get back in the game.
Georgtown goalkeeper Erin Mazursky made five saves to earn the shutout. McNeil led the Hoyas’ offense with four shots.
Syracuse will battle Virginia Tech in its first Northeast Division contest Sunday, Sept. 21 at the Syracuse Soccer Stadium. The match will begin at 1 p.m.
