
Men's Swimming and Diving Uses Total Team Effort to Defeat UConn

The SU men's swimming and diving team posted eight first-place finishes in 13 events (including a victory in the 400 medley relay) to edge the University of Connecticut, 128-115. The Orangemen improved to 4-1 in dual-meet action this season.
Freshman Luk Boral was first in the 200 butterfly (1:53.60) and the 200 breaststroke (2:04.78). Sophomore Pat Mugavin was first in the 1,000 freestyle (9:39.20) and the 500 freestyle (4:38.60). The remaining Orangemen who posted first-place finishes in individual races included Mike Anstrom in the 50 freestyle (21.66), Dewey Schultz in the 1M dive (281.70) and Bobby Schelling in the 200 backstroke (1:52.30).
On the women's side, the Orangewomen lost a 139-102 decision to the Huskies. SU's dual-meet record is now 2-3 on the season.
Sophomore Lisa Wittich won three events. She was first in the 1,000 freestyle (10:19.73), the 200 freestyle (1:54.20) and the 500 freestyle (5:04.79). Senior Elyse McDonough claimed first in the 200 individual medley (2:06.93) and the 200 butterfly (2:05.40).
Syracuse has two dual meets remaining before the BIG EAST Championship on Feb. 19. Next week, the Orange compete at Seton Hall, beginning at 1 p.m.
