Carriero Records Career-High Five Points in 4-0 Field Hockey Victory at Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. -- Senior forward Brittany Carriero (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) recorded a career-high five points (two goals, one assist) in the field hockey team's 4-0 victory against Lafayette at Rappolt Field. It was SU's eighth win in its last nine outings and third shutout of the season.

Carriero scored an unassisted goal 3:12 into the contest to give the Orange a 1-0 lead. Her linemate, fellow senior Meredith Gettel (Rehrersburg, Pa./Tulpehocken) struck four minutes later with a goal that was set up by senior midfielder Lindsay Peirson (North Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial).

A little more than eight minutes into the contest, Syracuse held a 3-0 lead thanks to Carriero's second goal of the afternoon which was assisted by Peirson at the 8:13 mark. The goal moved Carriero into a tie for the team lead in goals with six. Her assist to junior forward Paige Sullivan (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon) at 54:46 of the second half moved Carriero into the team lead for points with 15 (six goals, three assists). Peirson leads the team with seven assists. Sullivan and junior back Joanne Lombard (Ambler, Pa./Gwynedd Academy) also have six goals on the season.

Senior Betsy Wagner (Cherry Hills, Colo./Colorado Academy) played all 70 minutes in goal and recorded five saves. Syracuse outshot Lafayette, 26-9, and forced 12 penalty corners to the Leopards' five.

Syracuse improved its season record to 9-5. Lafayette dropped to 3-9 overall.

The Orange will next be in action on Friday, Oct. 15, in a BIG EAST matchup against Providence at 7 p.m. at Coyne Field. On Sunday, Oct. 17, SU will host Dartmouth at 12:30 p.m.
