Senior strong safety Diamond Ferri (Everett, Mass.) and sophomore punter Brendan Carney (Valley Forge, Pa.) earned the BIG EAST Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Week Awards for their efforts in SU’s 17-13 loss to eighth-ranked Florida State on October 9.
Ferri forced and recovered a fumble he returned for 30 yards and had an interception he returned for 44 yards. He also had six tackles – all solo stops. Ferri is SU’s third-leading tackler with 43 stops, including 27 solo and one for a loss. In addition, he has two interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and three pass breakups.
Carney punted six times for a 46.8 average and placed one kick inside the 20-yard line. He
also had a career-long 65-yard punt. Carney leads the BIG EAST and is 20th nationally with a 43.5 average. SU ranks 23rd nationally with a net punting average of 39.38.
Syracuse will play at #17/16 West Virginia on Thursday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN. The Orange return to the Carrier Dome on Saturday, October 30 to host Connecticut for SU’s Youth Day, which features $10 tickets for all fans 18 and under. Adult single-game tickets are $32. Individual game tickets for the specially priced upper end zone seats are $25 per game. The Gridiron Family Pack costs $80, a $32 savings.
The “Youth Day” Family Pack for SU’s designated day for young fans and families, scheduled for October 30 when SU hosts Connecticut, includes two adult tickets, two youth tickets, a $5 concession coupon and a parking pass for $65. The savings per pack is $31.
The Friends and Football Pack, available for SU’s games against Connecticut and Pittsburgh, includes two adult tickets and a $15 concession coupon for $65 – a savings of $14.
