
No. 23 Hartwick Upends Orange, 1-0

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 23rd-ranked Hartwick Hawks scored a 1-0 win against Syracuse in men’s soccer action on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at the SU Soccer Stadium. The Hawks improved to 7-2-3, while the Orange is now 2-9-0.
The game’s only goal came in the 72nd minute of play. Omar Gordon hit a shot from the top of the box that hit the upper-left corner of the post and ricocheted into the net. Eldin Sijercic was credited with the assist on the goal.
Syracuse goalkeeper Alim Karim (Scarborgough, Ontario) made two saves in the game to move into seventh place on the Orange’s career save ledger. Karim has 169 career stops, passing Steve Pollnow (168, 1988-91). Hartwick keeper Josh Wagenaar made fives for his fifth shutout of the season.
The Orange outshot the Hawks, 9-5, and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The game was SU’s sixth 1-0 loss of the season and the 13th consecutive game decided by one goal. Syracuse has now lost six straight games for the first time since 2000-01. The Orange is 0-3 this season versus ranked opponents. Every game has been decided by a 1-0 score.
