Men’s Soccer Loses, 3-2, at UConn

STORRS, Conn. – The Syracuse men’s soccer team lost, 3-2, at Connecticut in BIG EAST soccer action on Wednesday night at Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn. Junior forward Jeff Evans tallied his team-best third goal of the season, while senior Ryan Hickey notched his first career goal. Syracuse is 4-11-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the BIG EAST. The Huskies improve to 8-6-2 overall, 4-3-1 in the league.
The Huskies took an early 2-0 lead with goals by Julius James and Kevin Burns in the sixth and 12th minutes, respectively. The Orange tied the score before the end of the first half on Evans’ and Hickey's scores. Evans’ first goal came, unassisted, in the 27th minute. Hickey's tally came in the 43rd minute off a corner kick by freshman Isaac Collings, for his team-leading third assist this year.
Bonginkosi Macala scored the game-winning goal in the 60th minute off assists from William Osorio and Joe Coyle. Syracuse junior Alejandro Nuno fired a shot late in the game, but UConn goalie Adam Schuerman made the stop and secured the win for the Huskies.
The Orange held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks, but was out-shot 7-6. Junior goalkeeper Alim Karim finished the night with two saves. Connecticut’s Schuerman also recorded two stops.
The Orange travels to BIG EAST rival Villanova on Saturday, Oct. 30 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
