Orange Tennis Advances to Two Title Matches

HANOVER, N.H. – The Syracuse women’s tennis team completed its second day of competition at the Big Green Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 31. The Orange advanced to the title matches in doubles and consolation flight A singles.
Freshmen Victoria Vaynberg and Catherine Zawadzki, the No. 3 doubles seed, advance to the final in the doubles bracket. The duo defeated the No. 5 seed, Ames and Arlak of Brown, 9-8 (3), in the quarterfinals and the doubles team of Bothova and Blahutikova of St. John’s in the semifinals. Vaynberg and Zawadzki will face the No. 6 seed, Leo and Gourur of St. John’s, in the finals tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
Sophomore Carolina Huignard will play in the flight A singles consolation final against Sabatino of Boston University after she defeated Blahutiakova of St. John’s, 6-3, 6-1, in the quarterfinals and Charest of Boston University, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals.
Vaynberg and Zawadzki were both defeated in their quarterfinal matches in the flight A singles draw on Sunday. Vaynberg, the No. 6 seed, was defeated by the No. 1 seed, Ahmed of Dartmouth, 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10). Zawadzki lost to the No. 7 seed, Saiontz of Brown, 6-1, 6-4.
