Orange Tennis Wins Spring Opener

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse tennis team (1-0) began the spring dual season on Wednesday night with a victory against Colgate. The Orange captured victories at every position.
The Orange took the early advantage winning the doubles point. Syracuse then went on to win all six singles matches in straight sets.
Sophomore Ashley Lipton had a tough match at the No. 1 singles position against Marissa Alikpala. Lipton won the first set 7-5, and got out to an early 5-2 advantage in the second set before Alikpala won the next two games, making the score 5-4. Lipton won the next game to end the match.
Freshmen Victoria Vaynberg and Catherine Zawadzki made their Orange home debuts with wins in both singles and doubles. The duo made up the top SU doubles team and Vaynberg played in the No. 2 singles position, while Zawadzki played No. 3 singles for the Orange.
The Orange travels to Dartmouth for a match on Saturday, January, 29 at 11 a.m.
