SU Volleyball Wins First BIG EAST Match

South Orange, N.J. – The Syracuse volleyball team won its first BIG EAST match of the season as the Orange defeat the Seton Hall Pirates, 3-1. SU won the match by winning games one (30-27), three (30-24) and four (30-15). Seton Hall was able to win the second game, 35-33. SU is now 15-5 overall and 1-1 in BIG EAST play. Seton Hall moves to 6-13 overall, 0-1 in the BIG EAST.
Syracuse had three double-doubles recorded in the match. Junior Aila Dommestrup recorded 59 assists and made 13 digs. Junior Kelly Duan had a team-high 21 kills and made 14 digs, while junior Kristen Conway had 20 kills and 10 digs. Also for the Orange, Freshman Joscie Kaup led the team making 17 digs. Freshman Ellen Bruegge set career-highs in kills with 12 and attempts with 26.
As a team, the Orange set new season-highs for a four-game match in kills (75), attacks (190), assists (67) and digs (78).
For Seton Hall, Jennifer Procuniar and Shawn McDonald recorded doub;e-doubles. Procuniar made 10 kills and 15 digs, while McDonald recorded 45 assists and 15 digs.
SU returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 10 when its takes on Rutgers at 2:00 p.m.
