
Wyche and Carney Earn BIG EAST Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Junior defensive end James Wyche was named the BIG EAST co-Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore punter Brendan Carney earned the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week for their performances against Connecticut.
Wyche had the best game of his career tallying seven tackles, including four behind the line of scrimmage, three of which were sacks. Wyche's three sacks ties him for sixth on the SU single-game ledger and his four tackles for a loss is tied for fourth on the SU single-game list. Wyche leads the BIG EAST with 13 tackles for a loss this season and is second with 5.5 sacks.
Carney averaged 50.0 yards per punt (200 yards/ four punts), extending his streak of an average of at least 40 yards per punt to seven games. It is the 15th time in his 20 career games he has averaged at least 40 yards per punt. Carney also connected on six PATs in his first game this season as the team's placekicker. Carney is second in the BIG EAST and 12th nationally with a 44.1 yards per kick average.
The Orange football team host Pittsburgh in its final home game of the season this Saturday, Nov. 6 at 12 p.m. Syracuse will celebrate Senior Day by honoring its 14 senior student-athletes prior to the game.
