Jenkins Receives National Honor

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University redshirt freshman defensive tackle Tony Jenkins (Springfield, Va.) was named to The Sporting News Freshman All-America Second Team.
Jenkins was also named to the 2004 Freshman All-America First Team by Rivals.com. He has 43 tackles this season, including 19 solo and one for a loss. He has four pass break-ups and tallied three quarterback hurries. Jenkins tallied his first blocked kick on a PAT attempt at Purdue. He recorded his first career fumble recovery in the Orange’s 42-30 victory versus Connecticut.
SU has a talented trend of freshmen as linebacker Kelvin Smith earned the honor last year. He was named to The Sporting News Freshman All-America Third Team.
