Five SU Football Players Take Home Postseason Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Senior strong safety Diamond Ferri (Everett, Mass.) was honored by CollegeSportsReport.com as a second-team All-America Defense selection and a first-team all-senior defense selection. Senior offensive tackle Adam Terry (Queensbury, N.Y.) earned a spot on the all-senior offense third team and a special mention for the All-America Offense. Junior defensive end James Wyche (Roosevelt, N.Y.) was named to the second-team all-junior defense. Sophomore linebacker Jerry Mackey (Freeport, N.Y.) earned a spot on the all-sophomore defense third team and redshirt freshman Tony Jenkins (Springfield, Va.) earned first-team all-freshman defense accolades.
Ferri became the first player in BIG EAST history to garner both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors in the same week for his performance at Boston College. Ferri carried the ball 28 times for 141 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned an interception 44 yards for a touchdown and tallied six tackles. He ranks ninth nationally in kickoff returns with 27.1 yards per return. He led the team with four interceptions, three fumble recoveries and five forced fumbles. He set an SU record with 161 interception return yards. Ferri finished the regular season second on the team with 99 tackles. He was named to the 2004 All-BIG EAST First Team. In 2003, Ferri set a single-season record for an SU defensive back with 75 solo tackles.
Terry, a three-year starter, has started 35 straight games. He was selected to the 2004 All-BIG EAST First Team. He was part of an offensive line that blocked for the first SU duo to each run for over 800 yards (Walter Reyes and Damien Rhodes) since 1979.
Wyche ranks seventh on SU’s all-time tackles for a loss record list with 23.5 for a loss of 94 yards. He also ranks eighth on the tackles by a lineman record list at SU with 145. Wyche led the Orange defensive line with 68 tackles this year. He also led the team with 15.0 tackles for a loss, including 5.5 sacks. He was named to the 2004 All-BIG EAST Second Team.
Mackey led the Orange with 106 tackles this season, including a team-best 63 solo stops. He ranks fifth in the BIG EAST with 8.8 tackles per game. He had seven tackles behind the line of scrimmage, including two sacks. He recorded a career-high and team-best 17 tackles, including 13 solo, at Virginia.
Jenkins was also named to the 2004 Freshman All-America First Team by Rivals.com and to the Freshmen All-America Second Team by The Sporting News. He has 43 tackles this season, including 19 solo and one for a loss. He has four pass break-ups and tallied three quarterback hurries. Jenkins tallied his first blocked kick on a PAT attempt at Purdue. He recorded his first career fumble recovery in the Orange’s 42-30 victory versus Connecticut.
