
Orangewomen Split Two Games With Penn

Junior Monica Joines paced the Orange in the first game. She had a hand in five of SU's six goals, scoring four and recording an assist on another.
The Quakers took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Katie Spofford at 1:35 and free-position tally by Emily Cochran. Joines fed senior Leigh-Ann Zimmer to get SU on the scoreboard at 9:22 in the contest. Joines notched the Orangewomen's next two goals to give SU a 3-2 edge at the 16:10 mark.
After a goal by Allie Juras, Joines tallied her third goal of the contest at 19:26. Junior Courtney Palladino found the back of the net 2:14 later and Joines notched SU's final goal at 22:03. The Quakers got two free-position goals in the last five minutes, but could not overtake the Orange.
Freshman Bethel Steele played all 30 minutes of the first game and made five saves, with three coming on Pennsylvania free-position attempts.
The second game remained scorless until 7:46 when Emily Cochran scored to give Pennsylvania a 1-0 margin. Syracus senior Danielle Lillis evened the score at 1-1 with a goal at 10:48, but the Quakers tallied five of the final six goals to earn the triumph.
Quaker goalie, Liz Lorelli made seven saves in the second game, while sophomore Jennifer Kasel stopped three shots for SU.
The Orangewomen will open their season on Saturday, Feb. 28 at No. 2 Virginia.
