
Seven Swimmers in the Hunt for BIG EAST Medals on Day Two

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -- Luk Boral, Rob Persico, and Devon Ackroyd will compete in the Friday night finals of the men's 400 individual medley on Day Two of the 2004 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championship. All three Orangemen finished in the top 16 of the event during the morning preliminaries.
Elyse McDonough and Mike Anstrom will move on to the finals in the 100 butterfly, while Lisa Wittich will attempt to win her second medal in the women's 200 freestyle.
Josh Scott finished fifth in the prelims of the 200 freestyle. The evening race will be extremely close if the prelims are any indication. Ivan Morse of Rutgers was the clear winner with a time of 1:37.94, but the remaining seven competitors were separated by just 88 hundredths of a second. Scott's time was 1:39.40.
In the women's 100 breaststroke, Kalei Mahi finished 12th with a time of 1:05.11. Spencer Raymond was fifth in the men's 100 breaststroke (56.00). Virginia Tech's Kevin Furlong won the event in a time of 55.00. Boral will compete in the same race against Raymond and Furlong. He was eighth with a time of 56.44.
Bobby Schelling and Gustavo Kertzscher will compete in the consolation finals of the men's 100 backstroke. Randi Beaulieu will do the same in the women's 100 back.
The evening finals will begin at 6 p.m. at the Nassau County Aquatics Center.
