
McBride Scores Twenty-Two in Final Home Game

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior point guard Julie McBride led all scorers with 22 points in her final home game at Syracuse University in the Orangewomen's 59-52 loss to #24 Boston College before 1,936 fans at Manley Field House. Syracuse lost its 11th in a row and is now 6-19 overall and 3-12 in the BIG EAST. The Eagles have won six of their last seven, improving to 20-6 overall and 10-5 in the conference.
McBride's 22 points increased her SU record scoring total to 1,585 and her two three-point field goals increased her SU record to 229. McBride has scored 421 points this season, becoming the only Orangewoman ever to have three straight seasons of at least 400 points. The senior also had six rebounds, four assists and two steals in 40 minutes.
Junior forward Chineze Nwagbo scored 10 points and had five rebounds and junior forward Sarah Wegrzynowicz added 10 points and two rebounds.
Jessalyn Deveny led Boston College with 17 points and eight rebounds. Lisa Macchia scored 10 points off the bench. Clare Droesch scored eight points and handed out a team-best five assists.
In the first half, with the Orangewomen trailing by 10, 19-9, Wegrzynowicz hit two three point field goals to spark a 10-2 SU run that brought SU to within two, 21-19, with 3:11 left. SU trailed 25-19 at the half. McBride paced the Orangewomen with seven first half points.
In the second half, a McBride three-point field goal tied the game at 28 with 15:40 left to play. Boston College used a 15-7 run during the next seven minutes to take an eight point lead, 43-35, with 8:19 left in the game. A McBride layup with 4:35 left to play cut the Boston College lead to three, 49-46, but SU did not get closer. The Eagles connected on 11-of-12 free throws in the final three and one half minutes to seal the victory.
Syracuse held a 30-27 advantage on the glass, snapping a 20-game streak of being outrebonded. The Orangewomen's five three-point field goals increase their season total to 175, which is four shy of the SU single-season record of 179 set in 2001-02.
Syracuse will close the regular season at Notre Dame on Tuesday, March 2. The game will tip off at 7:00 p.m.
