
Former Orange Stars Lead Massachusetts into the Dome

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Former Orangewomen lacrosse performers and current Massachusetts' coaches Carrie Bolduc and Karen Healy return to the Carrier Dome on March 19 when No. 9 Syracuse (1-2, 0-1) and the Minutewomen (1-3) square off at 5:00 p.m. Bolduc competed for Syracuse from 1998-99 and is in her second season as the head coach at Massachusetts. Healy is in her second year as Bolduc’s assistant and played for the Orangewomen from 1998-2001. Healy is tied for seventh on SU’s career goals list with 53. She also ranks eighth on the Orangewomen’s all-time points list (63). Bolduc is tied for fifth all-time at SU with 25 assists and is 10th all-time with 57 career points. The Minutewomen are 1-3 this season. Their lone victory came against Holy Cross, 9-6, in their season-opener. Massachusetts' most recent game at Albany on March 17 was postponed due to inclement weather. Tracy Drown leads Massachusetts with 12 points (five goals, seven assists). Hope Zellinger paces the Minutewomen with 11 goals. Lauren McCarthy has played three of Massachusetts’ four games in goal. She is allowing 8.71 goals per game and owns a .591 save percentage. The Orangewomen are coming off consecutive home losses versus Maryland and Georgetown. Senior Leigh-Ann Zimmer leads the Orangewomen with 10 goals and 12 points. She is tied for 18th in the nation in points per game, averaging 4.0 points per contest. She is also ranks 17th with a 3.33 goals per game average and is tied for eighth in the BIG EAST in scoring. Junior Courtney Palladino scored her first goal of 2004 against the Hoyas and she leads SU with eight draw contols. The Orangewomen and the Minutewomen have met six times with Syracuse prevailing in all six contests. SU owns 3-0 records at home and on the road versus Massachusetts. The two teams first met in 1998 with the Orangewomen posting an 8-6 victory in that contest. In last year’s game, Kim Wayne, Zimmer and Danielle Lillis each scored two goals to lead SU to an 8-5 triumph at the Carrier Dome. In the 1999 pairing, the Orangewomen held the Minutewomen to two goals. It was the fewest goals Syracuse allowed during the 1999 campaign.
