Rose Nets Second Striaght BIG EAST Player of the Week Award

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse junior outfielder #Tanya Rose# was named BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week on Monday, March 22. Rose is the first Orangewoman ever to win the award twice in one season.
Rose was named the Most Valuable Player at the Mizuno Bash at the Beach tournament hosted by Delaware State after hitting .526 (10-for-19) with nine runs scored, four doubles, three home runs and three RBI from the leadoff spot. Rose led the Orangewomen to the tournament title with a slugging percentage of 1.211, racking up 23 total bases in five games. She also had a .550 on-base percentage.
Rose had at least one hit in all five games, extending her hitting streak to a
school-record 12 games. Against Delaware State, Rose became the just the second SU player ever to lead off a game with a home run. Versus Delaware she ignited a four-run comeback with a solo home run in the third inning. In the tournament championship game, a 4-0 win against Providence, she led off with a double and scored the winning run in the first inning. Rose then hit a solo home run in her next at-bat.
Rose’s effort this week moved her into first place on the Syracuse career record lists for runs scored (78), home runs (16) and total bases (210). She is only the second SU
player to record at least 200 total bases.
Syracuse is currently on a season-best five-game winning streak, improving its record to 14-14 on the season. The Orangewomen are off until opening both the BIG EAST and home portions of their schedule on April 2 versus Boston College. SU will also face Connecticut at home on Sunday, April 4.
