SYRACUSE, NY -- Syracuse University is celebrating National Orange Day on Wednesday, March 24. National Orange Day is a tradition that was started 11 years ago to commemorate Founders Day, March 24, 1870. This year is SU' 134th birthday.
Scheduled activities on campus began when the Crouse Chimes range out SU's alma mater and fight song at Noon. The Alumni Relations staff and Chancellor Kenneth Shaw gather for a birthday party at the Schine Student Center, featuring a giant helium balloon and free birthday cake.
Orange spirit will light up the Syracuse skyline tonight with SU-themed lighting on the Carrier Dome, the Niagara Mohawk Building and the MONY Towers.
