SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Walter Reyes carried the ball eight times for 97 yards, including a stunning 40-yard scamper, to highlight the action in the 2004 SU Spring Football Game at the Carrier Dome on Saturday.

Jeremy Sellers ran 10 times for 50 yards and Damien Rhodes had four attempts for 26 yards on the ground. Rhodes scored the afternoon's only touchdown on a one-yard dive in the first quarter. He also caught three passes for 11 yards.
Syracuse's other scores came on field goals. Collin Barber, the incumbent at the position, converted three-pointers of 20 and 32 yards, while Ricky Krautman was true on a 21-yard attempt.
Four quarterbacks - Perry Patterson, Xzavier Gaines, Joe Fields, and Matt Hale - took snaps in the scrimmage. Patterson completed six-of-eight throws for 52 yards. Gaines was six-of-nine for 84 yards and gained 12 yards rushing in four attempts. Fields hit three-of-eight passes for 16 yards.
Fullback Greg Hanoian had three catches for 65 yards, including a 45-yard hook-up with Gaines. Tight End Brandon Darlington had two receptions for 16 yards. Eight other receivers had a catch apiece.
The defensive effort was led by linebacker Vincenzo Giruzzi, who tallied seven total stops. Linebacker Jameel McClain had six tackles, and safeties Anthony Smith and Diamond Ferri added five tackles each. Ferri had one of four sacks posted by the defensive unit. Defensive end James Wyche had two sacks for 20 yards in losses and defensive end Lee Williams had the other sack. Wyche also had a fumble recovery.

The Spring Game featured the SU offense against the SU defense in four, 20-minute quarters of running time.
