
Bruno and Aloisi Earn Soccer MVP Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men’s soccer team gave out its team awards at the annual banquet held on April 24. Senior Chris Aloisi was named both the Defensive Most Valuable Player and the winner of the Frank Schantz Award. Freshman Frank Bruno was named the Orangemen’s Offensive Most Valuable Player.
Aloisi, currently a developmental player for the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer, was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team by the league's coaches in 2003. It was the second consecutive season Aloisi has earned third-team all-conference honors. Aloisi started 16 games for the Orangemen, helping the squad record five shutouts The fifth-year senior was only the second player in Syracuse history to be named team captain three times (John McCallion).
For his career, Aloisi scored four goals and had four assists. In addition to his All-BIG EAST honor last season, he was also named first-team All-New York Region. He has earned first- or second-team all-region honors three times. The Schantz Award is given to those individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to the SU program through their on-field performance, character and citizenship.
Bruno played in 16 games, starting 13 times. He tied for the team lead in scoring with four goals and one assist for nine points. Bruno netted his first collegiate goal against 20th-ranked Hartwick. Along with SU teammates Aliim Karim and Richard Asante, Bruno played on the Canadian Under-20 team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championships.
