
New England Patriots Agree to Terms with Gachelin

Gachelin finished his career ranked sixth on SU’s list for tackles by a down lineman with 157 in 47 games. During the 2003 season, Gachelin had 12.5 tackles for a lost of 57 yards, which ranks ninth on the SU season record list. In 2002, he had 17 tackles for a loss of 61 yards, which is second on the SU single-season ledger. Gachelin closed his career ranked seventh on SU’s all-time sacks list with 18.5.
Last season, Gachelin started all 12 games for SU, playing on defense as well as the PAT and field goal defense units. He received SU’s Tim Green Award for being the team’s most outstanding lineman. Gachelin recorded 12.5 tackles for a loss of 57 yards which ranks ninth on SU’s single-season record list. He also tied for fifth in the BIG EAST with 5.5 sacks and tied for eighth in the league in tackles for a loss (12.5). Gachelin finished fourth among BIG EAST defensive linemen with 5.1 tackles per game.
Gachelin is one of eight Orangemen in the NFL’s Class of 2004. Seniors Christian Ferrara, Johnnie Morant and Kevin Sampson were all drafted by NFL teams over the weekend. Josh Thomas has agreed to contract terms with the Indianapolis Colts, Darryl Kennedy agreed to a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Thump Belton has signed a contract with the Detroit Lions and Rich Scanlon will join Sampson with the Kansas City Chiefs. At the conclusion of the 2003 NFL season, 27 former Syracuse University football student-athletes were on NFL rosters.
