Hernandez Leads Fourth-Place SU Into Final Day of ECAC Championship

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior thrower Johvonne Hernandez was named to the All-East team in two events and led the Orange with 16 team points to help the SU women's track and field team to fourth place after the third day of competition at the ECAC Championship.
Hernandez won the discus with a season-best and NCAA Regional-qualifying throw of 53.87 meters on the second day of the meet. On the third day, she finished third in the hammer throw with an NCAA Regional-qualifying heave of 58.47m, even though she fouled on her last five attempts.
Junior Valerie Boling posted a season-best time of 11.96 in the semi-finals of the 100-meter dash. Junior Tatiana Warren recorded an NCAA Regional-qualifying mark of 6.05 meters in the long jump. She earned All-East honors by finishing third in the event.
Junior Valerij Petrulevich ran a season-best 1:51.04 in the 800-meter preliminaries, but did not make the final cut, finishing 16th overall. Sophomore Chris Muldoon also recorded a season-best performance, posting a time of 3:51.00 in the 1,500-meter preliminaries, and finishing 15th overall. The Syracuse men have yet to earn a point in the team standings.
The final day of the ECAC and IC4A Championships will be Sunday, May 16.
