SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men’s soccer team will open its 2004 campaign at home on Wednesday, September 1 against St. Bonaventure. The game with the Bonnies kicks off the 71st season of Orange soccer.
Syracuse will play 17 regular-season games, including four contests against teams that participated in last season’s NCAA Men’s College Cup. The Orange will play eight home games, including two doubleheaders with the SU women’s soccer team.
After its season-opening match with St. Bonaventure, SU will host Adelphi on September 5 at 2:30 p.m. The Orange plays its first road game on September 8 at Cornell. Other non-conference tilts include a home game with Hartwick and away contests at Oneonta, Albany and Colgate.
SU opens its BIG EAST schedule on Saturday, September 11 versus Boston College. Home games with Georgetown, Seton Hall, Rutgers and Providence highlight the remaining home games. Syracuse will face Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Connecticut and Villanova on the road. St. John’s, an NCAA finalist last season, is the only league team the Orange will not face.
The conference postseason begins with the quarterfinals on Saturday, November 6 or Sunday, November 7. Quarterfinal games will be played on the campuses of the top four seeds. The semifinals and finals will be played at the University of Connecticut on Friday, November 12 and Sunday, November 14.
Syracuse returns seven starters and 10 letterwinners from last year’s team that went 4-8-5, including a victory and three ties versus top-25 teams.
