Grimaldi Places Sixth in High Jump at NCAA Regional Meet

GAINESVILLE, Fla.
-- Junior Jenna Grimaldi scored 2.5 points for SU by placing sixth in the high jump on the second day of the NCAA East Region Track and Field Championship at Percy Beard Track. Grimaldi cleared 1.74 meters and just missed qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championship as the top five finishers advanced to the national meet.The Orange women finished the two-day event 13th in the overall team standings with 14.5 points.
Junior Johvonne Hernandez placed seventh in the shot put on Saturday with a heave of 15.92 meters, her second-best throw of the season. Hernandez won the discus competition on the first day of the meet to qualify for the NCAA Championship at Austin, Texas on June 9-12.
Three SU women competed in the triple jump on Saturday evening. Graduate student Aprelle Watkins recorded SU’s top finish in the event, placing 12th with a leap of 12.66 meters. Junior Tatiana Warren posted her second-best jump of the year with a mark of 12.24 meters and freshman Sheron Mark jumped 11.49 meters.
No Syracuse men competed on the second day of the meet. On Friday, graduate student Steve Bedard placed 17th in the shot put and sophomore Chris Muldoon finished 13th in the 5,000-meter run.
