5/7/2004 9:08:16 AM | Men's Rowing
SU's freshman eight, which is ranked sixth in the latest EARC poll, enters the race unbeaten this spring. The Orangemen have defeated five opponents, including a 25-second victory against Rutgers and a 20-second win against Georgetown.
The Orangemen's JV eight, ranked 10th in the EARC poll, won its second race of the season two weeks ago against Temple and Georgetown. The Orange crossed the finish line nearly 13 seconds ahead of the second-place Owls. Both of SU's JV eight victories have come on SU's home course on Onondaga Lake.
Last season, Dartmouth defeated SU's varsity eight by just over five seconds to win the Packard Cup for the 13th consecutive year. The last time the Orangemen took home the trophy was in 1990. SU has won the trophy 21 of the 43 times it has been contested.
The JV eight race will begin at 8:45 a.m. The varsity eights are scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m., and the freshmen eights race at 9:15 a.m. The freshman four race starts at 9:30 a.m.
