Men's Freshman 8 and Second Varsity 8 Advance to Petite Finals at IRA Regatta

On the second day of the IRA Regatta on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J., the Syracuse men's freshman eight advanced to the petite final after a semifinal time of 6:29.66. The men's second varsity eight also moved into Saturday's petite finals after posting times of 6:02.58 in its first heat, 5:51.22 in its repechage and 6:19.57 in the semifinal round.
In men's varsity eight action, Syracuse rowed to a time of 5:53.2 in its heat against Washington (5:42.43), Yale (5:44.28), Rutgers (5:45.95), Wisconsin (5:48.49) and North Carolina (5:56.41). In the repechage, the Orange recorded a time of 5:42.65 and in the semifinals, it registered a time of 6:11.56. SU now moves on to the third-level final against boats from Temple, Stanford, Brown, Boston University and Virginia at approximately 1:33 p.m. on Sat., June 5. Last season, the Syracuse varsity eight finished second in the fourth level final.
The men's freshman eight will go against Pennsylvania, Navy, Cornell, Northeastern and Boston University in the petite final at approximately 12:27 p.m. on June 5. The petite final for the second varsity eight will begin at approximately 12:54 p.m. and will feature Syracuse against crews from Dartmouth, Yale, Princeton, Wisconsin and Boston University.
Finally, the Syracuse master's eight is scheduled to compete in Saturday's grand final against alumni from MIT, Cornell, Pennsylvania, Rutgers, Boston University and Brown.
The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and CN8, the Comcast Network have agreed on terms for broadcasting arrangements for the 2004 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships. The Championships are held June 3-5 on the Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey. The broadcast will air on CN8 network wide to 6.2 million homes on Friday, June 11, 8:00 - 10:00 p.m. /ET. It will re-air on Saturday, June 12, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. /ET.
