SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Two former Orange men's soccer players will take the field at P&C Stadium for Friday's Eastern Conference Final matchup between the Syracuse Salty Dogs and the Montreal Impact. Ryan Hall, who played for SU from 1999-2002, is a midfielder for the Salty Dogs, while Gabriel Gervais, a member of the Orange from 1997-99, is a defender for the Impact.
The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. It is the first meeting of the two-game, aggregate goal total series that will determine which team will advance to the A-League championship. The second game will be played on Sunday in Montreal.
Gervais was named First Team A-League All-League this week for the third consecutive season. At two-time captain and Academic All-American at SU, Gervais was the league's Defender of the Year in 2003. As a senior in 1999, Gervais was both a first-team All-BIG EAST and first-team All-New York Region selection.
Gervais rejoined his team on Thursday after starting for the Canadian World Cup Team in a qualifying match in Costa Rica on Wednesday. The Costa Ricans won the match, 1-0. Gervais played all 90 minutes for Canada. It was his second match with the squad after playing in a friendly with Barbados in January of this year.
Hall has played in 23 games for the Salty Dogs this season. At Syracuse, he lettered four times and scored six goals and seven assists while splitting time between the midfield and defense. He had a career-high four goals and one assist in 2001.
Another former Syracuse captain, Chris Aloisi, is a member of the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer. The Galaxy play San Jose on Saturday. Aloisi has played four times as a rookie, including three starts.
The Orange plays its final home game of September on Saturday, Sept. 11 versus eighth-ranked Boston College at 1 p.m.
